Riverdale is a city with a population of 12,500 in Clayton County in the state of Georgia. The city was settled sometime before the Civil War and was officially incorporated in the year 1908. At the local level the city is governed by a mayor and council consisting of four council members who are elected by the people of the city. The city is well connected by road and is served by the Georgia State Route 85, 138, 139 and 314 and the Interstate 75. Riverdale is known for its parks. There are three main parks in Riverdale which are Travon D. Wilson Memorial Park, Church Park, Banks Park. For those interested in shopping, there is the Riverdale Main Shopping District which hosts a number of Hispanic, Asian and African stores. The city of Riverdale comes under Clayton County School System and has a number of schools such as Church St. Elementary, Lake Ridge Elementary, Harper Elementary, Riverdale Middle, Pointe South Middle, Riverdale High and Charles R. Drew High School. Riverdale was also once a home to the famous R&B singer Ciara. It is also known as the home of the famous street Evangelist, Mary James.
